Aropen 1 g – Meropenem Trihydrate Powder for Injection/Infusion

• Active Ingredient:
Each vial contains meropenem trihydrate equivalent to 1 g anhydrous meropenem, stabilized with sodium carbonate.

• Form & Packaging:
White to pale-yellow sterile powder in a glass vial, supplied with one or two 10 mL sterile water ampoules for reconstitution .

• Indications:
Used to treat serious bacterial infections (both community-acquired and nosocomial) including:

  • Pneumonia (including ventilator-associated)

  • UTIs (complicated/uncomplicated)

  • Intra-abdominal and gynaecological infections

  • Skin and soft tissue infections

  • Meningitis

  • Septicemia and febrile neutropenia.

Dosage & Administration

  • Adults (standard):

    • 500 mg IV every 8 h for less severe infections (e.g., skin, UTI, uncomplicated pneumonia)

    • 1 g IV every 8 h for severe infections (e.g., nosocomial pneumonia, peritonitis, sepsis)

    • Up to 2 g IV every 8 h for meningitis or cystic fibrosis-related infections.

  • Pediatrics (≥3 months):

    • 10–40 mg/kg IV every 8 h, depending on severity and infection type .

  • Renal impairment:

    • Dose adjustment based on creatinine clearance—reduced dose or frequency for CrCl <50 mL/min; supplemental dosing after hemodialysis .

  • Administration:

    • Administer as a short IV bolus (~3–5 min) or infusion over 15–30 min after reconstitution with sterile water or compatible fluids.
